Lilydale Falls Reserve – North East Tasmania

Travel_and_tassie via Instagram While heading off on an early morning trip towards the Meander Valley, it was an opportunity to stop at the Lilydale Falls Reserve about 25 km east of Launceston, just on the outskirts of the village of Lilydale. The spot is popular for a picnic, to camp or for bushwalking. A free camp that the cows love as well: Bretti Reserve, NSW

This is a beautiful camping and picnic area located in a serene environment. Although the facilities are basic, Bretti Reserve features large open spaces and a flowing river that makes for a refreshing swim. The river is frequented by birdlife and don’t be surprised if a few cows graze close to your site! The site has toilets, fireplaces, shade and access for a big rig; the maximum stay is one month. If you are looking for scenery, this is your spot. There’s good camping, fishing, swimming, surfing and diving, as well as wonderful views across Great Oyster Bay to Freycinet Peninsula. “Best camp on Queensland’s Cape York”: Mutee Head

CAMPS Ambassadors, Manda and Daniel from Overland Exposure shared these Queensland photos and declared: “Honestly, the best camp in the Cape! Beach front, off grid, small and quiet, beach walks, sunsets, camp fires, hammock laying, turtles, dolphins – just amazingness! We finally hit the road South and went to Mutee Head Turtle Camp for 2 nights. We checked this out a few days back and loved it. We looked forward to some quiet off grid camping with amazing views, not that Seisia was bad lol, this just had the possibilities of turtles too! It did not disappoint! We saw dolphins

Free overnighter: Allora Rest Area, Queensland

Dalrymple Creek, Allora, Qld – is a free overnight rest area, close to road and highway. There’s water in the creek, picnic tables and shelter, toilet, swings, bins, plenty of shade in this pet friendly pretty park. We had no problem with road noise, but were awakened by a late arrival. I took the path beside the creek, and looked up to find a lot of bats! There are a couple of plaques to read – the dedication of the parkland to Eric Ireland and about the wooden water trough, which has been on display here for 30 years. Dalrymple

Fish and free camp at Meredith Park, Victoria

A lovely peaceful spot on the shores of Lake Colac, the largest natural freshwater lake in Victoria. Meredith Park has large flat camping areas with easy access, views, and good facilities. There is water, shade, picnic table, fireplace, mobile phone coverage, toilets and a boat ramp. This popular camp ground is suitable for pets and there are good spots for big rigs. This is a great location for fishing when the water level is up. Expect water sports, prolific birdlife, fantastic sunsets and large grassy sites. Note: it can be windy here. It is rugged country, but some level sites are available near the dam. Toilets, BBQ, picnic table, dump point and fireplaces are on site. BYO firewood and bring water in case the dam is empty.
