CAMPS at Porcupine Gorge National Park, Queensland

Visit the iconic Porcupine Gorge National Park, Queensland

An iconic stop we think belongs on any Aussie bucket list is the lesser known Porcupine Gorge near Hughenden in Queensland. We managed the road from Hughenden easily with our caravan – it is 75 km north of the town on a fully sealed road. There is a short cut to Prairie, via a dirt road. This is a special national park and the site is aptly names the Pyramid Campground. You’ll see why when you venture down the MANY steps into the canyon below. Bring a picnic, we didn’t but you could have spent all day swimming (chilly!) and birdwatching,

Camping 101: Dos and don’ts with toilet cassettes and dump points

A couple of weeks ago we witnessed a women prepare her toilet cassette resting it on the power and water pillar shared by 4 sites in a caravan park.  She then proceeded to fill a water bottle from a point on the pillar that was not hers and put the bottle down

This quiet bush setting is deceptive to say the least, unpowered camping but with all the trimmings. Three years in the making, friendly owners Brad and Carolyn created this beauty on 25 acres of natural bushland. It has huge private level campsites around around 10 x 20 metres per site, so no need to unhook and privacy galore. Despite being only 470 metres off the highway there’s no traffic noise amongst all the shady gums.
