Considering a trip to the NT to catch some Barra, but not sure where to go? Here are some new app sites in Darwin’s surrounds, between Bynoe and Dundee. Be sure to book ahead as there can be seasonal opening times.
Samson Creek
Only 80 km S of Darwin, this site is a great base for visiting Litchfield National Park, Wagait Beach and Berry Springs. Small and private, this camp has a toilet and shower, and is accessible to vehicles with some clearance. No pets.
Jean & Johns Bynoe Stopover
Affordable and family-friendly, this welcoming site has spacious grassy sites amongst the native bush. The kids may even be able to feed the chooks or wandering wallabies, and the adults can enjoy a ‘happy hour’ on the deck at 4pm for a chinwag! No pets.
Green Acres
Beautifully maintained gardens and peaceful camp west of Berry Springs. Pet-friendly, unpowered and powered sites available, with access to flushing toilets and a shower. Only 20 minutes away from Crab Claw restaurant which can serve up your catch of the day upon arrangement.
Six Pack Fishing Retreat
Private and secure for all types of rigs, this exclusive site on 38 acres has modern amenities with a comfortable undercover communal area. The nearest boat ramp is only 1.5 km away making it a fantastic fishing location, as well as for birdwatching and bushwalking. Pet-friendly.
Prices Fishing Camp
This camp offers power, amenities and water for an affordable rate and is only 12 kms from Dundee Beach. Even has a small swimming hole to take a plunge in on those hot days. Pet-friendly.
Cycad Garden Stay
Exclusive campsite with an ensuite and undercover alfresco area including fan, lights and power. Complete with a beautifully maintained garden, this is a comfortable base to return to after a big day of fishing.
Dundee Beach Bush Camp
Open in the dry season only, this pet-friendly site requires a 2 night minimum stay, which is easy to commit to when you see the photos and location! Bush camping with a bit more; power is available at one of the two ensuite sites, but both have showers that lookout to the bush and flushing toilets. Only 2-3 kms from the picturesque beach and 5 kms from the boat ramp.
Base Camp @ Dundee
Owned and operated by brothers, Shane and Mark, this site is pet-friendly, family-friendly and fishing-friendly! Accessible to all rigs with powered and unpowered sites, amenities and a dump point (yes – out here!), it is located 2 kms from the beach and boat ramp.
It is clear that this site has been designed for true campers; you can see from Shane’s 2.5 laps experience going way back to Camps 3! Quote “Our bible an me ol ute we done 2.5 laps in.”
Hokeys Camp
Very close to Wagait Beach, this exclusive site has a fantastic undercover area, toilet, water and power. Gated for your safety and a convenience store nearby for the essentials. No pets.
Dundee Beach Holiday Park
A pet-friendly caravan park right on Dundee Beach, with a recently upgraded pool, luxury gardens and modern amenities. Close to The Lodge of Dundee which is the main social hub of the area and provider of essentials 7 days a week.
Best time for Barramundi fishing? Local fishing businesses say that the build-up time between October and December are good opportunities, but between March and May (Run-off) is unquestionably the best time to catch a barra. Less opportunities in the dry season between the end of May and September.
