If you like a little Western Star Butter on your toast you can thank the town of Cobden, where it has been made with the same fresh local ingredients for 100 years. Something else you can now thank them for is a brand new Freedom Camp!
Locals have been working hard for several years, to put this in place and it’s finally arrived. Located behind the BP Roadhouse, Information Centre & Motel, it includes a dump point, is pet-friendly (on lead), there’s good mobile signal and fresh drinking water. Donations are appreciated and if you support the local IGA they’ll throw in a free fuel voucher!
While there are currently no toilets, they are in the pipeline. In the meantime, there are toilets at Cobden Lake, a shady day-use area with bbq’s, picnic tables and a relaxing view of the lake. There’s also an outdoor pool and Apex Park with playground all within the same vicinity.
Cobden Freedom Camp has a 48 hour time limit, but if you need to stay longer you can have a chat with the friendly Information Centre staff.
Surrounded by rolling hills, Cobden is a superb base for visiting the Great Ocean Road or the Grampians and there’s a bus service to local towns for day trips to explore the attractions.
While you’re here visit the Cobden Miniature Railway, Pioneer Dairy Park, and Camperdown-Cobden-Timboon Rail Trail. Cobden is central to some high quality stocked fishing lakes including nearby Lake Elingamite. The people of Cobden are looking forward to welcoming you soon.
