What is amazing about this rest area is that you are in the West MacDonnell Ranges, close to tourist icons. This route is a must-see with beautiful gorges, indigenous culture, chasm, gap, hole and pits!

With a bitumen surface, there are picnic tables and a BBQ, but a patchy mobile reception. It is 24-hours only and pet friendly; BYO drinking water and firewood.

You will be rewarded with beautiful views and spectacular sunsets across the Ranges and Mt Sonder.

Read the plaque on Nathaniel Charles (Neil) Hargrave OBE, applauded for his work towards self-government of NT, and preserving areas for conservation, including local sites in the West MacDonnell Ranges and the Alice Springs Telegraph Station.

Make sure you see Ormiston Gorge, Glen Helen, the Ochre Pits and Ellery Creek Big Hole whilst you are here.

You are often sharing the peace with biting ants, so shoes a must!

You’ll find this rest area 107 km west of Alice Springs or 24 km east of Glen Helen, just 800m south of the Highway.

Look up NT site 51 in CAMPS 10 or if you have our CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App as well – simply go to the map or list and search with the site name!
