Free camping at Salt Creek Rest Area, Northern Territory

Salt Creek Rest Area is located conveniently between two major attractions in the Red Centre.

It is 210 km north east of Uluru and 113 km from Kings Canyon, so a perfect overnighter between the two iconic destinations.

And it is free and pet friendly, so it is generally busy.

This shaded BBQ/picnic area is a good spot, large with lots of space and trees. There is definitely room for Big Rigs, but BYO water. And it has the CAMPS tick of approval!

We certainly enjoyed our picnic here. We really made the most of the fresh breadsticks at the Yulara IGA. There was plenty of room for our kids to kick a football.

If you do plan on driving up to the West MacDonnell ranges – do check on permits and conditions of the Mereenie Loop.
