Peter Hancock wrote to tell us about a lovely country town and free riverside camp, west of Geelong in Victoria, Inverleigh.
Peter told us: “Inverleigh is a nice place on the Barwon/Leigh River.”
In fact town has two free sites, and both are pet friendly:
1. Leigh River South
This pretty spot is approved by Golden Plains Shire.
Said Peter, “The local person that looks after the area drives past regularly to make sure people are parked in the right areas.”
It is a short walk into town for fuel, cafes, pub and reportedly good pies at the bakery!
2. Inverleigh Rest Area
This 24 hour rest area is 1 km E of Inverleigh, only park east of the river and bridge. It is close to the road.
The town boast historic sites, river walks, a footbridge and playspace.
Peter also suggests, “If the town put in a dump point and water point near the hotel, the area would be very attractive for campers.”
