Butterfly Falls is in Limmen National Park, NT. You can camp beside them – budget priced, with toilets, shade, views and the CAMPS tick of approval! No pets or Big Rigs.
On the Savannah Way, it is a must do. You need to be self sufficient if driving this remote route. Remember it is seasonal, so you may not be able to swim here in the dry season.
Infact, it is the only safe swimming spot away from crocodiles, in the entire park! Towards the end of the dry it can become stagnant and unsuitable for a dip.
What else to do here?
- Fish for barramundi – it’s a favourite spot for it
- Hike to Southern Lost City
- Explore Western Lost City (you’ll need high clearance 4WD and a code from Nathan River Ranger Station)
- Birdwatching along the wetlands and rivers
Butterfly Falls is accessed via small vehicles only, from a 2 km dirt track off Nathan River Road, to the site. It is 199 km south of Roper Bar or 146 km north of Cape Crawford. All roads within the national park are unsealed, and they can close to flooding.
Make a stop here when you visit the Gulf in Northern Territory!
