A must-see when you visit Nambucca Heads on the northern NSW coast is the ‘V-wall’. Stroll down the groyne and enjoy artwork on the rocks. It is also located next door to the V-wall Tavern and NSW caravan park 380 in Caravan Parks 5.
We are pleased to hear of the upgrade and that RV day use parking spaces are planned! This site has been added as a day use site to the Camps Australia Wide App, as has beautiful Bellwood Park mentioned below. Here’s an update from their council:
Nambucca Shire Mayor Rhonda Hoban says a V-wall concept plan to improve this iconic destination is now on public exhibition and has invited residents and businesses to view the plan and provide feedback by 22 August 2019.
“The Nambucca Heads V-wall is a tourism jewel for our region and I am very much looking forward to it being refreshed through $472,000 funding from the New South Wales Government,” she said.
“Council has been successful in obtaining this grant funding under Round 2 of the government’s Stronger Country Community Fund and the project is fully-funded by the State Government.
“Major improvements to the V-wall area’s infrastructure and assets are proposed, including a reconfiguration of the carpark, improving open spaces, lighting and connectivity to pedestrian and cycle paths.
“We also plan to deliver some great new place making initiatives through the provision of a small performance space, the use of art, and storytelling to communicate the V-wall’s unique cultural heritage and sense of place.”
The V-wall concept design report builds on recommendations in the Nambucca River Master Plan which the community provided feedback on in 2009. Importantly the concept design report’s suggested reconfiguration of the existing carpark will deliver a net increase in the number of vehicle spaces, not a decrease whilst also providing about 700m2 of new open space. It is estimated an additional 33 car parking spaces can be provided, plus dedicated disabled parking spaces and six recreational vehicle parking spaces.
Council has recently delivered a lot of projects to build on and maintain key infrastructure in Nambucca Heads including rebuilding the ANZAC Park to Gordon Park jetty walk, upgrading public amenities at Bellwood and Gordon Parks, improvements to facilities at Stuart Island and playground at Bellwood Park and installing solar light bollards along the V-wall footpaths.
Any person can make a submission in writing to Council about the draft V-wall concept design report available below until 4pm on 22 August 2019. Hard-copies of the draft plan are displayed at the Nambucca Heads Library, Macksville Library and in Council’s Macksville administration building.
