North Gorge, North Stradbroke Island, Queensland
Camping

Best walk of the year (so far)

The hike around North Gorge, North Stradbroke Island, Queensland is short, has spectacular cliffs, marine life, a blowhole, and a surf club at the end!   We were told it was beautiful, but I was not prepared for the ocean views at every turn and the amazing gorge itself. The way the 1.2 km boardwalk winds its way around the cliff face really makes the most of the scenery. We spotted turtles and rays – we saw dolphins the next day – playing in the waves of Home Beach. No wonder this is a great spot for whale watching!  Start your

Mount Feathertop, Victoria: “one of the BEST walks in Australia”!

We’ve had on authority from THE family who hike every chance they get – Mount Feathertop Hike, near Hotham, Victoria is one of Australia’s greatest! At 1922m, Mount Feathertop is Victoria’s second highest peak. It is located just outside (2.5km towards Harrietville) from the Hotham Alpine Village, starting at Diamantina Hut. Take the 22km, 7-8 hour Razorback Track, a high narrow ridge. You’ll find it is a difficult but rewarding Grade 4 walk. Best times are summer to April, but be prepared – it can snow year round in Victoria’s High Country. Look out for wildflowers! The peak is a

Push the limits with these hikes and views near Albany, Western Australia

Granite Sky Walk, WA – Image Overland Exposure CAMPS Ambassador, Manda said “Albany Region in WA seems to like you pushing yourself and your limits to walk at heights! The Gap and Granite Sky Walk are both 20-30minutes out of Albany.  The Granite Sky Walk is not for the faint hearted, it is a 2km hike which is a constant climb, then a huge boulder manoeuvre, a ladder and then walking on a platform on the edge of the granite boulder. The Gap (at Torndirrup National Park) is not as difficult, even wheelchair/pram friendly.” “When you come to places like this, you

Waterfalls on the Box Forest Circuit, O’Reillys, Queensland

Yalnungala Falls O’Reillys Rainforest Retreat is south of Canungra in Queensland – and after last year’s devastating bushfires in May followed by the COVID-19 pandemic, what was known as Green Mountains campground, reopened as O’Reilly’s Campground. We checked it out recently and Heatley found us our very own waterfall – all to ourselves! The weather was scorching that week, even though we were walking under the cool of the rainforest canopy, As soon as we found the rock pools at Picnic Rock, I couldn’t have been more happy to sink into a little rockpool. it was more like a spa

Favourite Walks – NSW/QLD border

Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse Walking past the Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse forms part of my favourite trek on the Tweed…  I start near the Coolangatta Surf Club, and walk south around Greenmount. If tides are right you can walk on the beach. I normally stay on the path, I love how the path here is extra wide.  Walk past Greenmount Surf Club, there are a few viewing platforms on Greenmount – you can even walk right up to the top of it. Make sure you stop and watch the surfers. Views of Coolangatta Beach from Greenmount Follow the path or
