The BEST Queensland island for camping with your dog and more dog-friendly islands

The BEST Queensland island for camping with your dog is North Stradbroke Island, off Redland Bay in Brisbane. Warwick wrote in to say he loved our Straddie article and asked if there were 2WD, pet friendly camps… Unfortunately, to get to the only two areas that allow your pooch it is 4wd beach driving only.  Camp at Flinders Beach or Main Beach if you have a pet, as dogs are not allowed at any of the caravan parks. Although the National Parks will be out of bounds for you – there are still beautiful beaches to explore – Main Beach

Take a 900 km doggo friendly island road trip

Sarah from @allthegear.illustrated took a 900km van trip with her pup for “solitude and sunshine; connection and clarity…wide open spaces and ocean air to breathe and adventure amongst”…and said it was perfect! She even saw a cane train for the first time, and took her dog, Nessie, on a boat.  Starting in Caloundra on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, here where Sarah and her van Brian’s eight days were spent: MV Sarawak, Inskip Point, Rainbow Beach MV Sarawak, Inskip Point, Rainbow Beach – image Sarah from @allthegear.illustrated At Inskip Peninsula Recreation Reserve, you are right near K’gari Fraser Island, and north of

Travellers – keep pets safe around baits

The D’Alton family said Fifi is a great camper, and although she didn’t like the muzzle – it was her first time – she tolerated it when needed – Image Gail D’Alton We received sad news from a traveller of the loss of two dogs due to baiting. We thought we would remind Australian travellers to be aware, in case 1080 baiting programs are underway in the area. Baits are distributed throughout Australia for wild dog, dingo, rabbit or wild cat control. Signs should be up in locations where this occurs. Help out other pet owners by adding a review to

Lis Brown, Maggie and Mollie see Tasmania

by Leisa Cooper from CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE It was a pleasure catching up with full time traveller Lis Brown of Tasmania recently for a chat. Lis is Dutch-born, but grew up in Queensland. She had been a Queensland Police Officer for many years. At age 48 she decided to retire early, and at 55 headed out on her new path – the road! Her first trip to Tasmania was for five weeks, in 1999. On a rushed drive through Corinna to catch a booked scenic flight at Strahan, she made a promise to one day return to Corinna. It

How do you travel? Pet friendly or pet free?

Image: All smiles at Wallangarra, QLD an image featured from our App thanks to Peter Creigh Sometimes on our Facebook group – I Love Camping Australia Wide, there is a little bit of controversy about travelling with pets, especially dogs. Why? I guess it is because there are still some inconsiderate pet owners out there who may not keep their animal on a leash or contained, don’t pick up after them or let them yap. Plus there are folk who don’t understand how other travellers call them “fur babies”! In fact, we regularly receive requests to focus on sites that
