Clifton Showgrounds, Queensland Camps Australia Wide were probably the first ones to list showground camps! We love them, too! They are generally cheap, pet friendly and spacious BUT they have facilities. They’re a great place to start if you want to try different types of camping, because you still have the comforts of toilets, showers etc AND they are generally fenced, with a caretaker, or close to- if not in – town. Please check your filters when you search for them. Delete the other filters, and choose the showground symbol (see screenshot below). Or look for the yellow symbol on
Did you know at Toogoolawah Showgrounds, you can park anywhere you like? And they are community run, not by council but by the Show Society? We spoke to Bill, who sometimes helps out the caretaker, and knows the area, just north of Esk in the Brisbane Valley, quite well. He said you can choose your spot – “all 40 acres – we’ve had nearly 400 caravans here once!” It only costs $20 a night and $3 for the dump point for non patrons. You can see from these photos when we dropped in the other day, Murwillumbah Showgrounds are a little piece of paradise. Surrounded by ranges, and located near Mt Warning (or Wollumbin National Park) and in walking distance to Murwillumbah’s main street, it is a great spot! This is NSW site 2 in Camps 10 or find it on the Camps Australia WIde App. As for most showgrounds, camping is not available during events and very wet conditions, plus there are limited sites – so do check first as bookings are strongly advised (especially for a powered site).
