Parents: you never get this time again

Our tribe on the amazing Kings Canyon Rim Walk, NT “You only get 18 summers. One of the most valuable things I’ve learnt over the years from having 7 kids is this… Do not miss out on school holidays with your kids. Because the truth is, you only get 18 summers with your kids.  And once those summers are gone, they are gone. And then they are all grown up. … I’d encourage you to take some time to plan some things this school holidays. It doesn’t have to be expensive. They want YOU and your time more than anything.

Explore these Aussie outback camping gems

I’m writing from chilly Canberra in the ACT – a bit of a contrast to my Rainbow Beach walk in Queensland a few days ago. Down here to help family, I’ve been awed by sunset on Parliament House, The Eagle (the Australian American Memorial), local war history as well as their beautiful winter trees and leaves. Today we take you to every state and territory. These outback gems include a Queensland farm stay in an abandoned town, a budget SA camp and magnificent WA National Park. There’s free camping at a NSW outpost and Victorian Mallee pub, with a glimpse at a

Electric CAMPS, hydro power feats and best in show

Who is cozy and warm camping up north? It is chilly in Queensland! We had a BIG day out at the Brisbane Caravan and Camping Show – and met Alice and Ross, updating their CAMPS book! We also checked out some innovative new vans, trailers and rigs! Glad we wore comfy shoes – and Heatley found me easy to spot in my new turquoise CAMPS shirt! We take you around the country in this newsletter with Australia’s first hydro electricity scheme, largest hydro plant, and where a waterfall powers a castle. We tell the tale of our slow travel on a huge water source in

6 Aussie FREE camps for you!

I’m just back from beautiful South Australia and an adventure on the southern hemisphere’s biggest paddle boat. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Mum’s 80th birthday with my sisters. We were able to check out some amazing, mostly free Murray River camps. My sister and I walked 9km to show off the two below! We explored the City of Churches, and so I’ve included a little list of our Adelaide ‘must dos’. We also share two camps that are now free in New South Wales – a pub and a bowling club, a free site in outback Queensland, and

Camp Where The Wild Things Are

I’ve arrived home after my Murray River jaunt. It wasn’t all relaxing, though – I’ll have some wonderful SA camps and must dos for you over the coming weeks. It is also gratifying that my CAMPS Pendium state guides and I have only one state left to visit! This newsletter transports you to some lesser known gems in our beautiful country: bushcamp on a WA retreat for wedgetail eagles, beside a lake in Queensland’s Darling Downs and hike and camp on the NSW central coast. There is even a nude beach! From there, we travel back to Tassie to a wild,

Are you travelling north for winter?

As many travellers migrate north for winter, we thought we’d share some MUST DOS in the top half of Australia. So here are three amazing sites for you – a WA outback station stay, a 4WD mecca in NT and a platypus dwelling national park in northern Queensland, with a selection of nearby camps. When you are on the road, a few games come in handy – so we’ve added our CAMPS Spotto and my favourite FREE daily online challenges. If you love Wordle, then you’ll appreciate these. A camper recently told me that pub stays are NOT free stays, because you

7 cracking places to camp in the 4 states and 1 territory we visited this year

Darwin River Tavern, NT – you can see the anthills! We are just back from a trip to Armidale, NSW and we loved that all we needed to bring were two thin CAMPS Pendium books! NSW and QLD. In fact we have flown to NT in March and Tassie  in February – bringing only ONE super light book. Our trip to the Victorian High Country in the Easter school break – meant I only packed three state guides. So we thought we’d show you some of favourite places the books took us too! Here’s a free oceanside camp and RV stop,

MUST SEE Oracles Way – 2 states and waterfalls, 3 national parks, living history AND Australia’s biggest granite rock

Just back from our Armidale trip, we took a road we’ve never travelled from Queensland into New South Wales. So impressed, we are sharing The Oracles Way with you. We picked up new season crisp pink ladies (a papple and a potkin) at fruit stores in Stanthorpe, visited Neville at the Information Centre for local advice and drove east (not west as I had in the our newsletter) almost straight into New South Wales. What a route it is! It has everything from a bushranger and World War II living history, to a waterfall that rivals Litchfield National Park! My
