NEW Litchfield National Park camps to open for winter in Northern Territory

Three secluded 4WD campgrounds, next to East Reynolds River are due to open May 28, 2022. To camp at Central Valley campground 1, 2 or 3, you must have a booking and key to enter. Access is via a locked gate. These campgrounds mark the completion of the $17.5 million Turbo Charging Tourism project.More than 300,000 people visit Litchfield National Park every year and the addition of Central Valley has created 32 new campsites across 3 campgrounds in Litchfield. Before you get to Boonoo Boonoo National Park, you need to get the lingo right! It’s pronounced Bunna Boo Nu. Practice it, soon it will roll off the tongue. Cypress Pine Campground is the only camp in Boonoo Boonoo National Park. This is how you pronounce it! Located beside the Boonoo Boonoo River, there are firepits, BBQ and picnic tables at sites. Plus you’ll find a sheltered area and accessible toilets. I’m coming back for the river walk, It is one beautiful river and gorge! We are definitely coming back to this wonderful spot! You can camp under the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest granite rock! Sites at Bald Rock Campground have plenty of vegetation and privacy, we loved the granite surrounds. Bald Rock was neutral ground, trade route and a meeting place for three of the Aboriginal nations of the area: the Jukambal, Bundgalung and Kamilleroi. The campground would be a wonderful location for groups. There is a sheltered area, but each site had picnic tables – the site we stopped at had a huge one. The firepits were very functional with BBQ plates that rotated.

What’s open at Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territory?

Have you been here? Hands down, it is such a favourite for us. We loved coming up in the wet season – or near the end! There was still a lot open this time of year, BUT and it is a BIG but, it was so quiet on the tourist front. At Tjaebata Falls, there was no one else there. We had it all to ourselves! Locals have told us it’s been a late wet up Darwin way this year. But there was still plenty open for us to check out. Gates were mostly locked to the 4WD roads –

Butterfly Falls is in Limmen National Park, NT. You can camp beside them – budget priced, with toilets, shade, views and the CAMPS tick of approval! No pets or Big Rigs. On the Savannah Way, it is a must do. You need to be self sufficient if driving this remote route. Remember it is seasonal, so you may not be able to swim here in the dry season.
