Free camp at the Plough Inn, Victoria

Who else loves a free camp behind a pub? This one is located in Tarrawingee, about 14km from Wangaratta in Victoria and recommended by our CAMPS Ambassadors, Tracey and Dale from Adams Family Travels… There is plenty of room for self contained RVs with green grass and some shade.  The beer garden is a great place to sit in the afternoon and enjoy a drink or two.  There is also a playground for the kids and dogs are welcome on a leash. Highly recommend you book ahead as it is quite often fully booked out. When you arrive, you need

Barrow Creek Roadhouse, NT

Barrow Creek Roadhouse, NT reopens for camping!

After a low-key two and a half years, the Barrow Creek Hotel has been able to revitalise and offer meals and a place to stay to the weary traveller between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek. This welcoming roadhouse charges a small fee for unpowered pet-friendly sites at the side of the pub with use of amenities, and a bit extra for power. Sign at Sandy Creek Pub, Queensland
Hotel Camping

Is pub camping free?

Here’s the ‘how-to’ or ‘pub camping 101’… What do you think of this sign? At CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE, it is a given for us to support any business where we camp for free. Especially, if we want businesses like this hotel to continue to offer a free campsite. A camper recently told me that pub stays are NOT free stays, because you are compelled to buy a drink or meal for your patch of land. However, I am a bit of a glass-half-full kind of person. I reasoned that night, I was planning to eat out anyway – or socialise at

FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH – Sandy Creek Pub, Queensland

There were still a few campers around, and a couple of vans leaving when we dropped into Sandy Creek Pub, last week. You camp in the grassy paddock next door with some farm animals, and enter via a gate. The pub is not far from the Cunningham Highway, near Warwick in Queensland’s Darling Downs. We loved the sign here about patronising the hotel. The site is for patrons only, with a donation for charity and a fee for a shower. But it is great to find this freedom camp here, because the only other options in Warwick, are caravan parks.
