Freedom Camp at the Railway Hotel, Ravenswood Queensland

Ravenswood Pub – Images courtesy Janet Peters Ravenswood is in North Queensland. Built in 1902, once a gold mining town with 5000 residents and over 30 hotels in the late 1800s, now it is just a sleepy Outback town and a nice place to stop for a night. Traveller Janet Peters said, the publican loves visitors to partake a beer on arrival. “The kitchen is always open to purchase food. Very friendly people and locals were full of info on red claw at the dam, 115 km up the road.” Ravenswood Pub Camping Area – Images courtesy Janet Peters There is a

FREE CAMP at Maryborough, Queensland

Maryborough is a town and region with excellent options for RV travellers.  If you like being right in a city centre, then camp a night or two at The Alan and June Brown Car Park. This RV park is for travellers with self contained vehicles only. Pets are allowed and it is 48 hours only. Toilets are across the street, as is more RV day parking. And it is well signed.  The fact that it is behind the police station, also gives travellers peace of mind.  Although this is simply a car park, and you are close to a road –

Have fun at Theebine Hotel, Queensland

Theebine Hotel owner, Jackson If you haven’t been to Theebine, then you should!  Update: We were back again, last weekend for the opening of the new deck at Theebine Hotel. What a night, and I slept like a baby in the van. Check out the photos on our socials! We visited last September, met the publican,  some CAMPS fans (thanks Jeanette and friends) and said hi to the local councillor, Cr Dolly Jensen and had a lovely relaxed lunch! Since then, the Mary River flooded and has caused dreadful damage to the area. So, I’d say, they need your support even

Favourite free camp: Long Waterhole, Winton, Queensland

Drone image by Hugh Gilmore Geez, we enjoyed our night here! It is approximately 2 km from Winton (dirt road) on the Jundah Road. Long Waterhole is man-made and was once used during the Outback Festival as the site for the World Crayfish Derby! Fishermans Rest Mitchell, Queensland

What an awesome free camp, located 5.5km west of Mitchell in Queensland. There is plenty of room in this grassy riverside camping area along the banks of the Maranoa River. We did attempt a bit of fishing but as usual we had no luck. For those with a boat, there is a boat ramp here. There is a drop toilet, some rubbish bins and also a shaded picnic table. This free camp was very relaxing and one that we will definitely visit again. For more information check out the CAMPS guide books, new CAMPS Pendium boxed set and CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App. If

FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH – Sandy Creek Pub, Queensland

There were still a few campers around, and a couple of vans leaving when we dropped into Sandy Creek Pub, last week. You camp in the grassy paddock next door with some farm animals, and enter via a gate. The pub is not far from the Cunningham Highway, near Warwick in Queensland’s Darling Downs. We loved the sign here about patronising the hotel. The site is for patrons only, with a donation for charity and a fee for a shower. But it is great to find this freedom camp here, because the only other options in Warwick, are caravan parks.
