Red Cliff Beach Camp - Image by Overland Exposure
Beaches & Coasts

Feed the family from free camp, Red Cliff Beach, South Australia

Red Cliff Beach in SA, just 13 km south of Tumby Bay is pet friendly, with mobile coverage and a zero price and zero facilities. But you are rewarded with priceless views and abundant fishing! Fishing is best here at high tide off the points, and in the inlet. Said CAMPS Ambassador, Manda, “Daniel went fishing with a friend in his boat and they caught enough King George Whiting and squid to feed the family every lunch and dinner. Others were fishing off the rocks and spearfishing, both were also successful!” The southern end of Red Cliff is a beachfront camping area.

Changes to Murray River FREE camping near Yarrawonga, Victoria

Forges Beach – Victoria Vic Parks have recently made some big changes to the camping options along the Murray River, consolidating many state forest, wildlife reserves, conservation areas and town commons under the umbrella of the National Parks system. This has cleared up a lot of confusion about who controls what, where to book and where to find the info you need to plan your trip. With roughly 2000km of river frontage in Victoria, you can only imagine the scale of the task placed upon Parks to achieve this outcome and we thank them for their hard work. This process

Fishermans Rest Mitchell, Queensland

What an awesome free camp, located 5.5km west of Mitchell in Queensland. There is plenty of room in this grassy riverside camping area along the banks of the Maranoa River. We did attempt a bit of fishing but as usual we had no luck. For those with a boat, there is a boat ramp here. There is a drop toilet, some rubbish bins and also a shaded picnic table. This free camp was very relaxing and one that we will definitely visit again. For more information check out the CAMPS guide books, new CAMPS Pendium boxed set and CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App. If

Free camp oasis at Leichhardt Falls, Queensland

This is a very popular and scenic stop along the Queensland Gulf section of the Savannah Way. Best for self contained vehicles as there are no facilities – it is free and pet friendly. Make sure you leave no trace when you leave. The rocky plateaus and water provide great photo opportunities and exploring. Water levels will vary depending on the season. Julie Holt sent in these photos and told us, “The birdlife was amazing. The birds and wildlife were so natural, even though the cockatoos were noisy. Lucky for me I could take my hearing aids out to sleep!”

FREE camp: Eromanga Hall, Queensland

Dinosaurs, pub down the road, a welcome hot shower and beautiful western sunset – no wonder we loved our time in Eromanga. Eromanga’s town claim is threefold: the furthest town from the sea, the only independently owned oil refinery in the country AND Australia’s largest dinosaur! It is also on Queensland’s Natural Sciences Loop. We rate the wonderful free overnight camp – complete with excellent showers, toilets and playground. And it is pet friendly, with room for Big Rigs, shade and mobile reception! Driving in from Noccundra, and plenty of water crossings, Eromanga was muddy. We were first at Hall, so had the
