How good does this look? Downfall Creek Camp on Lake Tinaroo is located in the Danbulla forest, a spectacular part of the Atherton Tableland, Queensland. You can spend the day on the water, fishing, waterskiing and swimming, or enjoy the Regeneration walk that leads to the Kauri Creek camping area. Closed for summer: Ellery Creek Big Hole, Northern Territory

Access to the spectacular Ellery Creek Big Hole via road is closed until December 16. The site will reopen over Christmas from December 17, 2021 to January 4, 2022, and will then close again until February 2022. Not only does this mean no swimming, but the popular Ellery Creek Big Hole campground is inaccessible whilst roadworks occur. Re-opened Discovery Parks Glen Helen, Northern Territory

JB Plain Hut is the first hut you will come across from Dinner Plain, only 1.8 km towards Hotham Alpine Village in Victoria High Country. Surprisingly, there were several RVs at the carpark entrance on the Great Alpine Road – and at least 4 tents around the hut and my favourite snow gums. Council campgrounds to reopen in Gladstone, Queensland

Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) advises that its managed campgrounds will reopen from 2pm on Friday 28 August. Council-managed campgrounds to reopen include: Calliope River Picnic Area – north and south side (pictured) Futter Creek Camping Reserve, Boynedale The Oaks Camping Ground, Facing Island South End Camping Ground, Curtis Island. Based on advice from Queensland Health, campgrounds that are free of charge and do not have shared amenities (other than toilets) are not required to operate under an Approved COVID Safe Plan.
