Welcome Dan and Nora!
Congratulations to Dan and Nora Gleeson, new owners of Trinity Islands Holiday Park! Travelling with the CAMPS guides from way back, they’ve found a special corner of Australia to call their own. Plus they are sharing it with all of us!
“Dan and I travelled around Australia with the kids (now adults) navigating from the back seat with Camps 4. Mary and George would check what services were available at different sites in our Camps 4 Book, Dan would ask if the region’s industry seemed likely to have suitable work,” Nora said.
Amazing Travelling Experiences
They did all sorts of different jobs from milking cows in a dairy in Queensland to pen riding in a feedlot in NSW! They carted hay and fed cattle in Victoria, covering grapevines in Tasmania to serving in hardware and managing a caravan park in WA!
“There are too many amazing travelling experiences to note all, however some highlights were snorkelling in Ningaloo Reef, Christmas Day complete with a homemade gingerbread house on a houseboat on the Ord River, in the Kimberleys and fishing on Fraser Island (Kgari).”
They left Queensland with the car and the family caravan and returned to Peregian Beach, Queensland combining resort management as their children attended high school.
Settling at Trinity Islands
Nora told us, “Ten years later, the travel bug returned, and we bought Camps 12, Dan and I worked around the rural regions of Meandarra, Longreach, and Yaraka Qld, where our families still are. We found some beautiful camp spots and waterholes along the way. Now we own Trinity Islands Holiday Park on the banks of the Burrum River, Queensland.”
The couple have already added a tiny home to accommodate travellers who aren’t camping, and have plans for more improvements.
“We want to share with others what we have come to value throughout our life experiences,” Nora said. “Spending time with family and friends in nature, being outdoors, chatting, playing cards and cooking on a campfire, fishing, kayaking, and relaxing within the ecosystem of our native wildlife. Fish, lizards and birds of many species and kangaroos live here too!”
They hope guests will relax a while and experience the natural beauty of the Fraser Coast. During the winter months, whale watching from Hervey Bay is majestical. Nora recommended: “Hiking, fishing, swimming and exploring Kgari allows a deep connection with nature and it’s restorative powers.
What to see and do around Burrum Heads
“Lady Elliot Island is a also a favourite place of ours…a nature based eco experience of snorkelling with manta rays, reef sharks, loggerhead turtles and an abundance of fish species, a day trip is easily accessible from Hervey Bay.”
There are also Lady Musgrave cruise day trips from Bundaberg. Nora tells guests: “Bundy has the best rum and ginger beer! A drive through the food bowl around Childers is inspirational.”
However, the pair have other treats on their doorstep! Depending on the time of year, you can watch turtles nest at Mon Repos, near Bargara Beach and Bundaberg.
“Beach driving and fishing via Woodgate is spectacular (and not as busy as Noosa North Shore). You can surf the longest waves at Double Island Point or visit Noosa just a couple of hours from here (check out a farmer’s trail). Howard Bakery has the best bread and really good treats!”
With Brisbane is only three hours away, Nora loves the community and beauty of Burrum Heads.
