While heading off on an early morning trip towards the Meander Valley, it was an opportunity to stop at the Lilydale Falls Reserve about 25 km east of Launceston, just on the outskirts of the village of Lilydale. The spot is popular for a picnic, to camp or for bushwalking. (Above image @Travel_and_tassie via Instagram )
The reserve is a leafy, shaded haven, with lots of birdlife and plenty of room for vehicles, caravans, motorhomes or to camp up for one night. There is an undercover area with bbq, a playground for the kids, picnic tables, toilets, bins and pets are permitted.
From the camping area, take the walking path beside the creek which leads you up to the falls, it’s an easy five minute rainforest walk.
You’ll cross a footbridge over the creek and take the steps up to a viewing platform, but you can step down to the base of the falls, as well.
Lilydale Falls Reserve is site number 3 in Camps 11 definitely worth a look-see and an overnight stay while you’re touring Tassie, it’s a popular picnic spot on the weekends so get there early. You can pop into town for their markets by local designers and producers, delicious cafe food and to snag a bargain at my favourite quirky little antique shop.
