6 new RV parks proposed for Gympie, Queensland

Breaking news! Gympie Regional Council RV strategy has proposed 6 new RV sites at Amamoor, Gunalda, Gympie Showgrounds, Kilkivan, Tin Can Bay and a second Kandanga park.  This adds to Free RV parks at Dickabram Park, Widgee, Kinbombi Falls, Chatsworth Park, Carters Ridge and Kandanga in the Queensland region, just north of the Sunshine Coast. We’ve been encouraging council for years on this – as it is our local area. It is especially pleasing to hear about Gympie Showground and that for the first time the Cooloola Coast is included, at Tin Can Bay Qld. Plus it is wonderful news

Port Hedland Racecourse Port Hedland is the gateway to the Pilbara and there’s lots to explore.  Set up camp at the Port Hedland RV Stop – previously known as Port Hedland Racecourse. This free short term self-contained vehicle parking area is provided by the Town of Port Hedland Council just north of the town oval. Between Gympie and the Cooloola Coast, is a little oasis called Standown Park, QLD site 212 in Camps 11, 256 in Caravan Parks 5 or find it on the Camps Australia Wide App.  As we turned into their road, kangaroos were there to welcome us.  The pet friendly caravan park has powered sites and budget unpowered out of the way sites as there are 18 acres beside forestry, set amongst gardens, wide open spaces and memorial walls.  Standown is a military term for ‘rest/relax’ and that is exactly what you do here. UPDATE September 2024: Eumundi RV Stop Over and Dump Point is now permanently closed. Campers are advised to camp at Eumundi Showgrounds, 1 km away, or at the two campsites at Cooroy.
