Free camp on The Outback Way: Yarla Kutjarra Rest Area, Western Australia

Free, pet friendly, toilets, fire pits and remote! This is Yarla Kutjarra Rest Area – with a 48 hour limit for camping. North of Warburton it is on the Great Central Road in WA.

‘Australia’s longest shortcut!’ – the Outback Way is an epic 4WD road trip that connects you from Perth, Western Australia to Cairns, Queensland.

Linking Laverton to Winton via Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Alice Springs you will drive through remote desert, learning about Aboriginal culture and outback life. The shelter at Yarla Kutjarra has an interesting story and paintings, created by locals.

Make sure you organise your Abororiginal entry permits. This road is seasonal and more suitable to 4WD vehicles, camper trailers and off road caravans. HIgh clearance 4WD is recommended – conditions may include sand drifts and corrugations. Regularly graded, it is normally suitable for off road caravan and trailers. Road conditions visit: www.mainroads.wa.gov.au
