The gorgeous 19 bush camping sites along the Yorke Peninsula had a steep price rise from $10 to $20 per site per night. Council explained that their bush camping has never had a price increase since camping commenced and had been running at a loss for quite some time.
With the significant increase in the arrival of campers along this stretch of coastline, there has been some environmental damage that council is addressing. They have installed new and improved toilets in all but 2 of the smaller campgrounds, and have employed an extra ranger to help monitor the environmental impact. The price increase along with cleaning, site maintenance, revegetation etc also helps alleviate the burden on rate payers.
