10 things to do and see in Tin Can Bay, Queensland

The small fishing and tourist town of Tin Can Bay is on the Cooloola Coast of the Gympie Region, between the Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast in Queensland. Here’s what we recommend you do and see whilst you are there: Feed wild dolphins The absolute drawcard for Tin Can Bay is its wild dolphins. They come in and feed most mornings and for a few dollars per person you can watch them, and a few more you can feed them a fish yourself! Unlike Monkey Mia where a few people in a huge group are selected to feed their dolphins, everyone

Aussie MUST DO: Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo, New South Wales

Did you know you can camp at Taronga Western Plains Zoo? Heatley’s mum and sister had the best time there last week! They said:    “5 hrs at the zoo. Fabulous day. Nyla the king cheetah, the giraffes and the Siamang apes were so engaging and our favourites…”   You’ll find it in Dubbo, New South Wales. It’s an interesting town to explore – but even better knowing you can see the lions and giraffes. If you are driving near Dubbo with the kids, add African animals to your spotto list!    I wonder if you’ve been here, too? Here are photos from

Tips on Touring Tasmania

Ezra from the UK, is hiring a motorhome, and organising a week’s camping in Tasmania. He said places are booking out already, and was hoping for some advice…  Now, we’re just back from Tasmania and it is no surprise bookings are busy. Especially around that time. We had trouble, too – but there was still room in free camps. Firstly – here is our latest article that is perfect for you. I would recommend choosing one corner of Tasmania (depending on where you fly into Tasmania), otherwise in a week you’ll spend a lot of time driving. Many free camps

See the turtles at Mon Repos

Definitely a thing for your bucket list.  The turtles were THE reason we stayed at Bargara Beach Caravan Park. Mon Repos supports the Pacific region’s largest breeding population of loggerhead turtles, and the largest nesting marine turtles on the eastern mainland Australia. Of course we found lots of other lovely things to do in Bundaberg and the coast, but seeing the turtles was the highlight of the weekend. Not just for us, but also our son and his friend.  Be prepared for a wait. If you are planning, book well ahead. If not, and it is booked out – ask if

Freedom camping at Old Canna Camp Site, Western Australia

As well as a wonderful camping spot amongst carpets of Western Australia wildflowers, during the season,  the Old Canna Camp Site has sad history, and was send in by CAMPS Traveller, Michael Lennon. He said, “After the trenches in France during World War I this old soldier probably thought that this was a palace.  The story and photos are a sobering reminder to be grateful for what one has.” The Old Canna Camp is for self contained vehicles and by donation. Fires are allowed – there is shade and mobile coverage. If you are after facilities or power, stop at

Barrington Tops State Forest Lookout

Have you camped at Barrington Tops, near Gloucester, NSW?

West of Gloucester, and east of Scone, is a very special (and chilly) New South Wales national park and state forest. As well as lookouts, there are seven camping options around Barrington Tops – including Polblue Campground which you can find in the first edition of CAMPS!  Check out these world class views from recently upgraded Cobark Lookout at Barrington Tops State Forest. Cobark Lookout is the first stop for visitors on their way across the Barrington Tops from Gloucester, so was a great candidate for an upgrade, said Forestry Corporation of NSW Tourism and Partnerships Manager Louise Faulkner. Explore The Kimberley: 12 must dos around Kununurra and the eastern Gibb River Road, Western Australia

Kapok flowers and the Cockburn Ranges on the Gibb River Road Nothing compares to The Kimberley. I don’t think I could even anticipate how much this well known region, covering the north of Western Australia would resonate within me. Was it the trees? Those sunsets? Definitely the ranges… We explored from Kununurra to Broome, I was entranced! Here’s why we loved the eastern Kimberley and our introduction to the Gibb River Road… 1. Kununurra town We had to get through some work deadlines, and back then we secured an awesome family rate – so it was our longest stop in our
