The Cunnamulla Fella, Queensland This is what we have in store for you in this newsletter: a route we definitely recommend, how a popular site has been upgraded, and still remains free/donation, a free camp plus can you guess a location? I also list some of my favourite reads for your trips – make sure you tell us yours!  All of these places were part of our South West Queensland winter adventure, and oh, we’d love to back out there! It looks like we won’t have our two in NSW and ACT home to Queensland for uni holidays. Mum is

12 Favourite Camping Reads – CAMPS’ picks for books on the road

It is easy for me to find books to read, a book-aholic – I have some lined up on my bedside, plus a bookshelf full just waiting. Here are some of my favourites, that I hope you will enjoy. Send in your recommendations and camping/reading photos, and we’ll start another list! Bridge of Clay – Markus Zusak  This story meant I only started my latest book club saga a few days before we were supposed to discuss it! If you are a lover of The Book Thief, Zusak’s latest was exquisite. He tips me so easily into tears, crafting such

Winter wandering

How exciting! School holidays are here and we are escaping south! Covid fingers crossed.

Heatley and I had our first vaccine. It was astrazeneca, only to find out that day they lifted the age to 60!

Gordon and Barbara at Rainbow Beach Holiday Village, QLD

Warm up with four waterside spots and a station stay

Brrr! Have you had snow at your place? It is chilly here, too. No wonder travellers are heading north for winter. Heatley and I caught up with Gordon, the creator of ‘Gas Bottle Refills’ and his partner, Barbara whilst they were on their latest Queensland trip. Gas bottles are a new feature on the Camps Australia Wide App – the functionality can be turned off just like petrol stations, so it is there when you need it. This is in addition to the new gas bottle symbol you’ll find at sites where you can buy or swap your gas bottle. Seasoned travellers, Barbara shared some

Where are you travelling for winter?

It’s the last day of autumn, WHAT winter travel have you planned? Heatley likes to drive, I control where we go! I sit with the CAMPS book on my lap, and the Caravan Parks nearby, our App and camera ready. Is there a clear role in your vehicle? How do you solo travellers work it all out? Because we audit as we go, and we’re normally on a time limit – we do operate on an itinerary. That piece of paper is lovingly nurtured over weeks of planning, ready to change it up for a whim or a road not

CAMPS Team Members: Jed and Tyla Elmer

Absolute gems, Jed and Tyla are the friendly voices you’ll hear when you call our office. We first met Tyla when she was working in reception at our doctor’s surgery. Back when they were a family of four, they kindly agreed to help us with a photo shoot and TV ad for another business. Not long after that we bought CAMPS and both Tyla and Jed started verifying sites. Their dedication and sense of detail meant they were first in our list when we expanded our team in 2019. They are both very active on their school’s P&C, and we

Happy Mother’s Day!

Rain, rain and more rain here today! But it is a long weekend AND our region has another May long weekend coming up for the local show.  It was so good to commemorate ANZAC Day with our community, unlike last year – and for some Western Australians. We’ve seen so many vans and RVs out there, I think everyone who can, is enjoying the freedom.  Here am I, our youngest took a photo of me kitting out the ‘kitchen’ of the new van. We can’t wait to hit the road!  Mother’s Day is just around the corner on May 9, and
