Perisher Ski Fields by Kate Gilmore In 2022, we are so fortunate that the snow season has started early! If skiing or snowboarding is your thing, or if you just want the kids to have the experience of a snowball fight and sticking a carrot in the face of a snowman they have rolled themselves… Here’s a few options for accommodation that are easier on the wallet. Travel_and_tassie via Instagram While heading off on an early morning trip towards the Meander Valley, it was an opportunity to stop at the Lilydale Falls Reserve about 25 km east of Launceston, just on the outskirts of the village of Lilydale. The spot is popular for a picnic, to camp or for bushwalking. We’d like to give a shout out to the folk at the Border Gate Roadhouse, New South Wales. Right on the border with South Australia, Covid and state border closures hit them hard. On top of that, they have had floods to contend with. This site was closed for a few months, but is now open again for 72 hour rests, pet friendly and free! However, they are still waiting for a plumber – so for now it is SCV (self contained vehicles) only – until repairs are made on their amenities. They said plumbers are flat out with repairs
Molong Bowling Club in New South Wales is now open for self contained vehicles – just find a spot under the trees. It is FREE camping with no time limit! The club will be looking at a donation box soon. This private, flat grassed area behind the bowling club, is pet friendly and central to town. Volunteers run the club which opens in the late afternoons most days, with meals available one day of the week (check with club). The organisers said, “Thanks for including us, we love having caravanners, great for us and our small community.” Also note the latest phone number is in
Cunningham Highway (The Pocket) Reserve is free, pet friendly with a bonus of water views and birdlife. It was our first night camping of our Outback Queensland trip, and we were on route to Cloncurry – via Goondiwindi, Carnarvon Gorge, Winton, Longreach, and more. Our youngest, a 15-year-old, was watching a footy game – as he was in our local footy tipping comp. We turned off the highway, and as we drove a couple of hundred metres down to the water, he and his brother squealed – it’s SOS only, Dad. They were talking about their mobile range. Of course,
The Gympie Region in Queensland have doubled their free and budget options for RV travel and camping! Marg McIntosh park is pet friendly, allows free RV overnights and has: Toilets BBQs Picnic tables Mobile coverage Shade It is suitable for big rigs, caravans, motorhomes and camper trailers (self contained) with a stay limit of 20 hours – but hopefully this will be extended when the Gympie RV strategy is implemented. The camping area at Dumaresq River is actually just south of town and unique – as you are perched right on the state border. Step over either bridge and you are in NSW! Pet and Big Rig friendly, this site has a 14 day limit and is for self contained vehicles only. Bonuses include level grassy areas, wooden BBQs and rubbish bins. Here is a beautiful coastal campsite in the rugged west coast of Tasmania. It is free, pet friendly and protected from the wind. Metres down the road, you’re at the beach! The park here has toilets, cold showers, a playground, sheltered BBQ and picnic tables right over the beach with AMAZING views. There are more picnic tables in the camp area (see the video below). Suited for motorhomes, campervans, camper trailers and tents. Bring drinking water. Cold outdoor showers. No open fires allowed. The campsite is clearly signed and on the right before the beach.
