JB Plain Hut is the first hut you will come across from Dinner Plain, only 1.8 km towards Hotham Alpine Village in Victoria High Country. Surprisingly, there were several RVs at the carpark entrance on the Great Alpine Road – and at least 4 tents around the hut and my favourite snow gums. A lovely peaceful spot on the shores of Lake Colac, the largest natural freshwater lake in Victoria. Meredith Park has large flat camping areas with easy access, views, and good facilities. There is water, shade, picnic table, fireplace, mobile phone coverage, toilets and a boat ramp. This popular camp ground is suitable for pets and there are good spots for big rigs. If you’d like to wake up to beautiful views of a lake and mountains, here’s your camp spot! You are situated very close to the shores of Lake Hume, and on the 64km High Country Rail Trail. The large grassy area has easy access and a boat ramp. There are toilets, picnic table, BBQ, and mobile phone coverage. Big rigs and pets can find a home here. Maritime history at Port Albert Parking Area

Just a slight detour in off the beaten track, Port Albert is a sleepy fishing village on the Victorian coast that caters well for a few self-contained RVs right on the foreshore. The town is steeped in maritime history with some of its buildings dating back to the mid 1800’s. A hidden gem: Reeves Beach Coastal Reserve

Located in a sheltered area on the southernmost part of Ninety Mile Beach, this campsite is a hidden gem. On Reeves Beach you can spot dolphins or whales if you are lucky, go fishing, surf, swim or simply walk and take in the scenery. This is a popular spot in peak holiday periods so make sure you have a plan B if you are travelling during this time. Facilities are basic but there are wood BBQs available (BYO wood) and small campfires are allowed if there are no fire bans in place.
