New budget camp: Buxton Bush Retreat, near Childers, Queensland

Kerrie and Brian have opened up their 17 acre property at Buxton, near Childers for camping. It is half way between Bundaberg and Hervey Bay, Queensland with 8 dedicated camping areas set amongst natural bushland.  Brian said, “The camp sites are all flat, fully grassed and well maintained. Each campsite has its own fire pit and an initial supply of firewood (plenty more available in the ‘bush’ areas).  The campsites are only suitable for fully self contained motorhomes, RVs and Caravans as there is no power, water or shower toilet facilities on site (as yet).” The couple live on site

Maryborough, on the Fraser Coast of Queensland, really gets the thumbs up from us when it comes to free and budget camping options. Doonvilla RV Park is run by the Doon Villa Football Club Inc. Next to Maryborough Airport, Qld. Don’t worry – we couldn’t even hear the planes when we were there, the larger airport is in nearby Hervey Bay. Travel to Wuruma, Nambucca and Gympie!

I hope you are on the road right now, having fun! We attended a consultation for the draft RV strategy for our region, and followed it up with a country drive into the Mary Valley – checking on sites. Our feedback to council was to provide a greater number of RV camps across the region – they don’t need to include facilities plus! Rather than having huge dollars spent on one location – like plans for the Valley Rattler Terminal RV stop, we encouraged them to set up and publicise smaller sites, region wide.
