Visit the iconic Porcupine Gorge National Park, Queensland

An iconic stop we think belongs on any Aussie bucket list is the lesser known Porcupine Gorge near Hughenden in Queensland. We managed the road from Hughenden easily with our caravan – it is 75 km north of the town on a fully sealed road. There is a short cut to Prairie, via a dirt road. This is a special national park and the site is aptly names the Pyramid Campground. You’ll see why when you venture down the MANY steps into the canyon below. Bring a picnic, we didn’t but you could have spent all day swimming (chilly!) and birdwatching,

10 things to do and see in Tin Can Bay, Queensland

The small fishing and tourist town of Tin Can Bay is on the Cooloola Coast of the Gympie Region, between the Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast in Queensland. Here’s what we recommend you do and see whilst you are there: Feed wild dolphins The absolute drawcard for Tin Can Bay is its wild dolphins. They come in and feed most mornings and for a few dollars per person you can watch them, and a few more you can feed them a fish yourself! Unlike Monkey Mia where a few people in a huge group are selected to feed their dolphins, everyone

Pet friendly camp near a waterfall at Woods Reserve, Australian Capital Territory

Gibraltar Falls ACT We love camps near waterfalls! On a recent winter visit to the Australian Capital Territory, I was able to scope out some campsites.  From Woods Reserve, you can walk or drive upstream to the magnificent Gibraltar Falls. It’s only 30 or so km from Canberra. It is named after the first Europeans to settle in the area. The camp is near Namadgi National Park – with toilets, showers, picnic tables, shade, wood BBQs and a 14 day limit. It is a pretty drive out here, not far from the Brindabellas. A favourite of our Canberra family, it

Depot Beach, South Coast, New South Wales – Image Kate Gilmore Don’t you love it when a campground is right beside the beach? Depot Beach just north of Batemans Bay, on the south NSW coast is a family favourite. Our daughter said it was quiet and pretty. They had a lovely picnic on the beach. She said you walked just over a hill and road – a hundred metres or so from the campground to the beach. Facilities include toilets, showers, electric power, BBQs picnic tables, drinking water. BYO firewood and coins for the shower. The sites are suitable for tents, swags,

Amazing beach views: Weipa Camping Ground, Queensland

Have you visited Weipa? Located on Albatross Bay on the western side of Cape York Peninsula – it is right on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Renowned for fishing, wilderness and beaches, this mining town is seriously remote: 800 km drive from Cairns, and 200 km from ‘The Tip’. CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE ambassadors, Overland Exposure, visited Weipa Camping Ground recently and said, “Amazing site with beach views! Some unpowered sites are large and have water views, others not so ask when booking. Kids’ playground, refreshing pool, restaurant to eat at with outdoor dining which was nice. Woolies and shops just outside.”
