Major upgrades are coming to Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. The temporary closure starts April 17, and it is estimated it will take five months to complete.
What is in store?
- including 64 camping and caravan sites
- 27 overflow camping sites
- 14 cabins
- 10 eco glamping tents
- 10 pop up tents
New services, water/power etc, roads, camp kitchen, amenities and internal roads are all planned. As well as an all abilities playground, five tents will be designed accessible for travellers of all abilities. There is also to be more provision for seasonal workers.

Although the campground area is closed it is business as usual for local recreational and sporting club activities.
Funding includes $2M from the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, $500,000 from a Visitor Experience Uplift Grant (Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action) and $427,000 from the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority.
