Bunda Cliffs camping closed in South Australia

The Bunda Cliffs Camping area was closed in our listings some time ago.  Camping along here is NOT permitted and poses significant safety risks to the public.

Parks has given advice again that this area part of the Nullabor Wilderness Protection Area is unstable. The cliff edge is constantly collapsing into the ocean. Tracks along the Cliffs are also not accessible as many have cracks and prone to collapse.

Parks goal is to keep the public safe and alternative camping arrangements are already in the works.  The planning for another location is hoped to be approximately halfway between Border Village and the Nullarbor Roadhouse.

Despite signage, we have heard that some visitors have ignored the closure signs and driven around them, creating new tracks.  As well as the risk to your life you may also be fined.

Camping options are still available at:

  • Koonalda Homestead
  • Nullarbor Roadhouse
  • Border Village Roadhouse
  • various roadside rest stops along the Eyre Highway – at no cost but please respect any time limits

There are three official Bunda Cliff lookouts which are sign posted and have been put in locations safe for the public. The lookouts provide some of the best viewing opportunites for stunning panoramas along the cliffs to the east and west.

For any queries visit their website or call the National Parks and Wildlife office at Ceduna.  We will keep you updated as soon as we hear plans for their new camping area.
