Cataract Gorge is an amazing destination and one of the most visited natural attractions in Launceston, Tasmania. It is particularly popular in Summer with loads of visitors making the most of the First Basin swimming Pool.
Camps Ambassadors Overland Exposure visited with their family and said they totally recommend it. They were impressed something so beautiful was really close to town.
Daniel and Amanda chose to walk the First Basin Loop including across the suspension bridge plus the walk to the lookout on the way to the pump station.
Located not far from the CBD, it includes spectacular views, a cafe, restaurant and the worlds longest single span chairlift.
This is a perfect spot for families as you’ll find picnic tables, a beaut kids playground, BBQ facilities, free wifi, toilets and changing rooms. There’s even an accessible inclinator. Best of all FREE transport to the Gorge is on offer here by way of The Tiger Bus. This place really does have it all!
The Gorge is home to abundant wildlife with visiting wallabies and pademelons that live in the neighbourhood. However, I think the real stars of the show are the Peacocks showing off their exotic colours as they strut around displaying those gorgeous feathers.
If you are after a camp close by then try Old Macs Farmstay, another family friendly top Tassie spot.
