UPDATE May 2023: Coonalpyn Caravan Park is still free for unpowered camping, but with a fee for power & showers, using a pay wave system, and a great place to check out!
Who doesn’t love a freebie! We have to give a shout out to Coorong District Council managing Coonalpyn Caravan Park also known as the Coonalpyn Soldiers Memorial Park.
The park underwent some refurbishment earlier this year and council opted to charge no fees during that time, and have decided to continue that model for the time being and you will only pay as you use with a fee for the shower and power. No bookings, first come first served!
Coonalpyn, in the Coorong region, in the south east corner of South Australia, has a local hotel, bakery coffee shop plus a waffle and jaffle shop.
This is the perfect spot to rest a while, with shady grounds, a swimming pool opened during the summer months, a playground, BMX track and barbeque facilities.
The park is pet and RV friendly including a dump point, with 22 powered and 20 unpowered sites set amongst the trees.
Here’s what one camper had to say on the CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App…
“What a fantastic spot to stay! We overnighted here on our way from Vic to Central Aus but could happily have stayed longer. Highlights of the town include silo art and street art mosaic … currently free with power and water hookups available there are amenities with toilets and hot showers available for $5 (pay by card) Its 2 blocks back from the main road and railway line so not too much noise in a lovely treed setting next to the sports ground. We highly recommend.”
