Cool down at a Dinner Plain chalet in Victoria

Cascade Chalet We’ve just heard it is snowing again in Dinner Plain, near Hotham, Victoria. A friend, who also is a Dinner Plain fan says, “It snows every month in Dinner Plain”. When we’re not camping, we drive up the Great Alpine Road to our home-away-from-home. You can also escape the summer heat and book Cascade Chalet now – it’s available and sleeps 8. You can park your van or RV in the driveway, and enjoy hikes, wildlife, frisbee golf, pub nights, walks to cattlemen’s huts and a waterfall! Use Cascade as a base to explore SOOO many gorgeous mountain

JB Plain Hut Campground, Dinner Plain by CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE

Free camp at JB Plain Hut in the Victorian High Country

JB Plain Hut is the first hut you will come across from Dinner Plain, only 1.8 km towards Hotham Alpine Village in Victoria High Country. Surprisingly, there were several RVs at the carpark entrance on the Great Alpine Road – and at least 4 tents around the hut and my favourite snow gums. One skier set up right on the edge of the plain. A beautiful spot! It is a walk-in site for tent camping – with a drop toilet. The two room hut is pretty rustic inside and out – there is a fireplace, the hut is only for

Where are the locations featured in the new CAMPS Pendium state by state book covers?

South Australia – A Murphys Haystacks, Eyre Peninsula Seven iconic locations are featured on state book covers in the new CAMPS Pendium. Here they are for your go-to list: camp beside a natural or man made wonder! Murphy’s Haystacks, South Australia Murphy’s Haystacks are ancient rock formations on a farm – in a paddock! There is a picnic area and toilet, and the site is not far from the highway. The budget camp area is pet friendly, has 24 hours maximum stay, mobile coverage, shade, limited level spots, but it is so unique, we loved it and we’ve given it our CAMPS tick of approval!  Northern Territory

Bright Victoria - Alpine
Family Friendly Fun

One of the prettiest places in Australia – Bright, Victoria

The Ovens River is up! The last time we visited Bright in the Alpine region of Victoria was earlier this year – there was an annual cycle event. People everywhere, and car parks were scarce. What are we kidding – every time we are here the tourist town is pumping! However we still found a delicious lunch, and a picnic spot with a view.  Heatley’s mum and sister were there this week and they were awed by the force of the Ovens River. His Mum said: “Bright is the prettiest place. Bright Riverside Caravan Park was lovely, too – with great

High country free camp: Victoria Falls, Victoria

If you are looking for a pretty waterfall, then check out some of our camps beside waterfalls. Victoria Falls Campground is known more as a historical area rather than a waterfall – it was the site of Victoria’s first hydro electricity scheme. The history is interesting, but infrastructure was removed – just some concrete remains. Instead, park up and enjoy the serenity! This camp area has enough going for it, to visit in its own right. It has a beautiful little creek (see our video below) and bridge with picnic area, barbeques and toilet alongside.  Plus you can bring your pets,

CAMPS at the new Dead Timber Hill Track, Dinner Plain, Victoria – I came back for a sunset after seeing an emu pair here! We returned from our Victorian High Country family adventure in time to commemorate ANZAC Day, back in Rainbow Beach. It was wonderful to spend time with our Army girl, studying hard in Canberra, our younger boys and Heatley’s mum. Heatley and I were wowed by some cracking NSW and VIC campsites! We’ve included one of them from a country NSW town that is doing its utmost to attract RV travellers. Well done, Yass! The region is not
