Well, it is chilly down south – even in The Centre. Friends are in Alice at the moment and tell us the nights are very brisk! What events and festivals do you recommend in Australia?

Big Red Bash – © mattography – Matt Williams Photography Who’s experiencing Birdsville’s Big Red Bash this year? With Midnight Oil headlining, and 16 other Aussie artists and bands including The Living End, Busby Marou, Kasey Chambers and Richard Clapton – I would love to be there with you! It is held July 16-18 – over three days and nights at this unique outback festival in the Simpson Desert. We had a question last month, on what festivals or events in WA would we recommend. So travellers – please share your favourite events. Not just in WA but across Australia.

Photography by Beverley Fittock We arrived at Leichhardt Lagoon caravan and camping park on 31st July 2015, 170 years almost to the day since Ludwig Leichhardt camped by the Norman River on 19th July 1845. Leichhardt was one of Australia’s early explorers at the time of his camp there he was on his 1844/45 expedition from Morton Bay to Port Essington, NE of Darwin. I have read that Leichhardt camped at latitude 17 degrees 49 minutes, Leichhardt Lagoon is at latitude 17 degrees 51 minutes. This may be why he is reported to have rejoiced at

Just a slight detour in off the beaten track, Port Albert is a sleepy fishing village on the Victorian coast that caters well for a few self-contained RVs right on the foreshore. The town is steeped in maritime history with some of its buildings dating back to the mid 1800’s. We enjoyed a late afternoon walk around the Old Port Walking Trail, followed by a counter meal at the charming Customs House Inn a short stroll from the parking area. The PORT ALBERT PARKING AREA
