Long Paddock

CowgirlWhere: Cobb Highway, NSW

Looking for a real outback adventure? Long Paddock takes you through the wide open spaces of country NSW and leads you to iconic outback towns such as Broken Hill, Bourke and White Cliffs. At more than 600km long this route spans along the Cobb Highway from Echuca Moama to Wilcannia.

Long Paddock is a historic web of tracks that connected the inland NSW and Queensland stock-breeding areas with Victoria’s emerging markets. As well as being rich with history, this touring route will take you through some of Australia’s most unique landscapes such as the Hay Plains (the flattest place in the southern hemisphere) and historically significant agricultural areas.

In terms of accommodation, there is a range of places to stay along the way including camping grounds, caravan parks, holiday parks, hotels and motels. Wanganella Camp Creek Park is a particularly nice place to stop over for the night with its Billabong creek, natural scenery, bird life and peaceful places to catch a fish or two.

With a wide variety of things to see and do there is a little something for everyone. Whether you want to experience Australian sheep shearing at Shear Outback, cruise the Murray River or learn about Australian history at the various Museums located along the way, Long Paddock is a memorable experience.
