10 camps that don’t cost you a cent!

Boy, have we seen some awesome free camps lately! Although we’ve based ourselves at Dinner Plain- we’ve had epic drives through the Victorian High Country. (You can check out the chalet here, there is room to park up a van out the front. But don’t take one up in winter!) One thing up here, free camps are plentiful. Buckety Plain (pictured), Raspberry Hill and Langfords West are a winning free camp trifecta in the Alpine National Park – east of Falls Creek. That is, if you love the Aussie bush, hiking and escaping the heat. PRETTY PRITCHARDS CAMPGROUND This beautiful

Big Lap part 5 – what we forgot to tell you…

If you’ve been following our socials, you’ll know about our NSW South Coast roadtrip into East Gippsland. This week, we’re in the Victorian High Country and loving it! Like our swim in the Snowy River at McKillops Bridge! Meanwhile, I had promised to tell you about our horror happening at Elephant Cove, latest apps and share info on the states we didn’t visit on our first ever lap. Winner Announcement Congratulations to Bev B. from Hervey Bay, QLD who won our $20,000 Kimberley Holiday Giveaway! Thanks to everyone who entered. We’re hoping to experience the Horizontal Falls, too – perhaps

Planning a big lap? Part 4 – Augusta, WA to ACT

Take our final journey of our Aussie Big Lap! This section starts us from Augusta WA, where you watch two oceans meet from the top of Australia’s tallest lighthouse! The tour was excellent – you can see we’re almost blasted off with the wind! And we think you’ll be blown away by all our tips along Australia’s south – for shorter breaks or your own lap. Importantly, our free giveaway is about to close. Although, we visited Broome and Derby – six tickets to Horizontal Falls wasn’t in our budget.  This exact trip is definitely on my list. So enter

Where the hell is Hay?

Hay is a wonderful town in New South Wales. Three highways intersect at Hay: the Cobb, Sturt and Mid Western, so it is hard to miss! The phrase, “Where the hell is Hay?” isn’t ours. In fact, after our lap in 2013, Heatley came home with a hat saying just that! Seriously, we were impressed by Hay’s attractions back then and loved our free camp stay a few months ago. Put this NSW gem on your list! First we scoped out the campgrounds… Hay Showground Our first stop, we chatted with the very friendly caretaker, Kevin. He said, “It was

Planning a big lap? Here’s where we travelled – part 1

Over the next month we’re taking you through our first lap of Australia! Of course, we’ve been back to many of these places over the years… If you are planning short trips or a lap yourself, you may want to add some of these locations to your list. All jampacked in a tin can, here’s our highlights (part 1)…. First stop: Kirra, QLD We said bye to

Our Aussie big lap with the kids – part 1

If you are considering an Aussie big lap, here’s ours! Go ten years back – when our kids were 14, 13, 10 and 8, all jampacked in a tin can. At the time we owned the local paper – so our Australia road trip was chronicled every month. As I planned, nomad friends told us about a book we must buy – and marked their must sees in it for us! Who’d have thought a few years later we’d be the owner of CAMPS and making our trips “work and play”! Here’s our first update from Back o’ Bourke in

Swim into the last month of summer with these camps

We’re just back from Wee Waa in western NSW and we didn’t think we’d be dipping in a hot bore bath! Although temps were soaring for the weekend, we dutifully (haha) tested out Pilliga Bore Baths – now open for swimming and camping! Heatley decided it was nowhere near as hot as the Lightning Ridge spa, so it was the first hot mineral springs he enjoyed! Are they your ‘cup of tea’? I love them all, the hotter – the better. But it was great to cool down with their shower after. Council wanted us to mention, the nearest dump

Ready for 2024 adventures? The BEST of Australia is right here

We hope you’re ready for some 2024 adventures, but firstly – THANK YOU to all the travellers who wrote in and told us they loved our camping myths! Some had questions, others brought up the self-contained debate and we were told: “It is good to see someone not afraid to print the truths about a lot of the xxxx that is out there. Keep up the good work.” Another traveller, Bruce, used our App and book for a 5-week Streaky Bay to Sydney roadtrip and here are his photos and locations! He told us: “We could not fault the expert
